![]() ![]() |
Summary of a Fly Drive Holiday: Travel around Orlando, Daytona Beach, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, Florida in 1997. |
Time of Year | Last Week June First Week July |
Travel Agent | Jetline (Teletext) |
Travel Operator | Britannia |
Landing Airport | Orlando Sanford Airport - SFB |
Car Hire Company | Alamo |
Type of Car | GEO Prizm. Did not like it at all, no power and small. |
Accommodation | Broadway Motel, Kissimmee (now closed). Located at the further end of Highway 192 its ideal if you want to be away from all the hustle and bustle, but close enough to evertything you need. Still only a 20 min drive to Disney. Kmart (Like Asda) is only a minute away.
Scottish Inns, Daytona. A nice little motel located on A1A just a couple of minutes from Daytona Beach. My all time favourite Buffet is just down the road, Staceys Buffet. Knights Inn, Palm Harbour. North of Clearwater on US 19 means that this motel is handy if you are planning to visit Tarpon Springs, very tidy and all on one level we enjoyed it here. Small pool. Broadway, St Petes. Garbage, we shared our room with cockroaches. Knights Inn, Sarasota. Very clean, when we were there it was run by some people from Birmingham. Best Western, Clearwater Central. (now Travelodge) The best hotel in the world, for me anyway. Located on US 19 we have been back every year since. Hot Spa, great pool and security patrolled. 15 min from beach. Shops near by include Target, Best Buy and the Dollar Tree. Great Buffet Buddy Freddy also close by. A Scouser lady works there as well. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sunshine Inn, Kissimmee. This saved our lives, a bit ramshackled with no pool to really talk about, it was like a palace to us. It was July 4th and most motels were packed except this British run motel. Nice and clean. |
Holiday Comments | After all the travelling we were all a bit worse for wares, but we really enjoyed seeing a bit more of what Florida had to offer. I personally gained an appreciation for the need to have a better car with more creature comforts. Highlight of the holiday was getting to see a shuttle launch, I would advise anybody to see one if possible. |
Family Rating | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We did too many motels and that left us no chance to unpack. We were never settled in one place. Booking through Teletext saved us quite a bit of money. We learnt that its a good idea to go back to Kissimmee for the last night as it gives you chance to settle before your flight home. |
